Work Detail – August 30th Completed
Thanks to all who came out on Sunday morning to help with the September work detail. We installed new signs on the property, a steel plate target on the 100yd range, painted wood target frame materials, replaced the top board on the 50yd range, emptied trash and cleaned up casings. Thanks to Neil, Phil, Guyer, Greg, Jordan, Bill, Wilson, Stan, Mike, Milt, Dale, Mark, and Chris. Special thanks to Greg E. and his son Jordan for prefabricating the cement pad and installing it. Our next work detail is scheduled for October 4th.
100yd Range Steel Target Installed
The newly installed 100yd steel target is made from AR500 armor plate steel and, just like the swinging targets on the pistol range, should last for many years as long as it’s not abused. To this end, we are limiting the caliber to be used on the target to 30 06 or lower in power for the time being. If you notice that the target is being damaged, stop shooting at it immediately and report the caliber you were using to the club leadership.
Peregrine Falcon Q&A
Our guest speaker at the May club meeting, Game Officer Kreider, spoke to the group about several game-related topics in the Lehigh Valley. For those that attended the meeting, you may recall that Officer Kreider spoke about a recent effort to tag peregrine falcons nesting under the Tilghman St. bridge with the guidance of peregrine falcon expert Art McMorris. A recent interview with Mr. McMorris was published in the Morning Call. Here is a link to that article. http://www.mcall.com/news/local/mc-art-mcmorris-newsmaker-20150530-story.html
Ridge and Valley Kid’s Fishing Derby on April 26th at Moyer’s Lake was a great success. Many kids won gift cards for the largest fish in their category. For pictures of the event, go to: Derby Pics
Well, our May 16th Striper trip was perhaps not our most successful trip to date but, as the old saying goes “a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work”. Despite some rain and cooler weather in the morning, we still managed to get 16 or so blue fish on the boat along with a few skates and striper that was too small to take home. The seas were flat and calm and the crew of the Mi Jo were great hosts as usual. They tried their best to get us the striped bass that we were after but, it was not to be. The fleet of boats around us faired no better. That’s fishing. Our next trip is on September 19th for Fluke. More details to come but, see Bill Breiner or Chris Hutter to reserve your seat.
